Ryan Sheridan Named - Athletes Only Athlete of the Week
By John Nepolitan / February 19, 2008

sheridanUSXC08champsJN.jpg During the 2004 high school cross country season one of the stars of the future was sophomore Ryan Sheridan of New York's Walt Whitman HS. During the season Sheridan had won the New York State Championship and earned a trip to the Foot Locker National Championships placing 17th in San Diego. Soon after that, however, things started to go wrong. A series of illnesses and injuries would whip out the rest of Sheridan's high school career. Still, people knew that there was promise and hoped that he would one day return to competition. Landing at the high powered Iona College, Sheridan ran a few cross country races in this his freshman year, but nothing that showed that he was ready for a return to San Diego. Running at the USATF Jr National Championships Sheridan moved to the front at 5000 meters into the 8000 meter race and would go on to grab 2nd place and a spot on the USA team that will run at the IAAF World Championships in Scotland in late March.

For what may be one of the greatest comebacks in recent years, Ryan Sheridan, has been named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week for the week of February 18th.

American Track & Field - Athletes Only magazine will recognize an outstanding performance each week by American high school and college athletes during the 2007 - 2008 school year
