gitsWorldXCChamps08JN.jpg At this year's Junior Women's IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Scotland on March 30, Alexandria Gits from Standford University was tucked into the lead pack. Just past the halfway mark in the 6000 meter course she was on her way to a breakthrough performance when out of nowhere a runner in front of her went down taking Gits down with her! But the Stanford freshman bounced right up showing remarkable poise as she worked her way back, passing a number of the runners who had passed her. In the end, Gits worked herself back up to finish 13th overall and led the U.S. team to a 6th place finish.

For picking herself up and not letting one mishap ruin a great performance, Alexandria Gits, has been named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week for the week of March 31st.

American Track & Field - Athletes Only magazine will recognize an outstanding performance each week by American high school and college athletes during the 2007 - 2008 school year
