LIMA (PER, Jun 12): The 49th South American Championships started in Lima with Brazilian javelin record 81.22 by Julio Miranda de Oliveira during first day. Second Argentinian Braian Toledo 79.34. Another top mark in pole vault 570 by German Chiaraviglio of Argentina, just 1 cm under his national record back from 2006. Fast 400 m was won by Albert Bravo of Venezuela 45.26 (missed his national record from altitude only by 0.05). Second Hederson Alves from Brazil 45.57 and third another Venezuela runner Freddy Mezones 45.67. Good distances by women, Muriel Coneo of Colombia 4:10.14 in the 1500 m and Peru´s Ines Melchor 32:28.87 in the 10 000 m ahead of Maria Pastuna of Ecuador 32:51.33. Geisa Coutinho was the favorite women 400 m winner in 53.07.

With its “Black Tie and Sneakers Gala” on October 29, 2015 at the 168th Street Armory, USATF will bring together some of the most iconic athletes in our country’s history, celebrities from sports & entertainment, fans and current stars. Held at the home of the Hall of Fame within the iconic walls of the Armory on New York City’s Upper West side, the multimedia event will pay homage to athletes past and present. Award presenters will include national celebrities and Hall of Fame athletes in a black tie, red-carpet event.

pichardo2.pngPedro Pablo Pichardo stamped his authority on the triple jump competition from his very first jump and ended up improving both the meeting and stadium records with his winning effort of 17.96m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Rome on Thursday (4). The 21-year-old Cuban may not yet have surpassed Jonathan Edwards’ long-standing world record of 18.29m but he did beat one of the Briton’s slightly inferior marks, the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea meeting record of 17.60m which had stood since 1998.

Lavillenie went over an IAAF Diamond League pole vault record of 6.05m in Eugene on Saturday, rising to equal second on the world all-time outdoor list.

What has resonated with me is it is better to get to the line 80% in shape but 100% healthy rather than 100% in shape and 80% healthy. It always used to scare me to think I could go into an event in only 80% shape. Yet from experience it is so much harder to compete at your best when you have a nagging injury. As long as you are 100% healthy, a combination of the adrenaline and competition can compensate for your lack of fitness and you can achieve some amazing things.

ETHIOPIA 2.jpgBOULDER — Meskerem Assefa of Ethiopia used a surge just before the 5-mile mark of the Bolder Boulder 10K to pull away from Kenya's Risper Gesabwa and win the elite women's race.
Her teammates, Amane Gobena and Makida Abdela, finished second and fifth overall, leading the Ethiopians to a first-place team with eight points.

RABAT (MAR): Top stars of the 8th edition of the Meeting International Mohammed VI in Rabat (IAAF World Challenge) on June 14 will be world stars like Kirani James from Grenada in the 400 m. Kenyan DL winner Silas Kiplagat (1500 m) and Jairus Birech (3000 m steeple). French Pascal Martinot-Lagarde is scheduled for 110 m hurdles, in high jump World and European Champion Bohdan Bondarenko. On the women side US Allyson Felix in her first top 400 m of the season and returning Kenyan World champion Vivian Cheruiyot in the 3000 m. Poland´s Adam Kszczot will have African opponents in the 800 m, South African Khotso Mokoena looks to be long jump favorite, best African javelin throwers Ihab Abdelrahman and Julius Yego will face some top European throwers. Men hammer as part of IAAF HT Challenge will have the top two in the World Krisztian Pars and Pawel Fajdek. In-shape Ukrainian Anna Mishchenko and Albanian record holder Luiza Gega will have some top opposition in women 1500 m, fresh DL winner Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou will be the star of women pole vault.

Two of America’s greatest runners are among the stars in the field, US record holders Galen Rupp and Bernard Lagat.

GEORGETOWN (CAY, May 16): Cayman Invitational registered top marks in men 200 m and 400 m races. Trinidad´s talent Michael Cedenio improved to excellent 44.36, what is 2nd best time in the World this year. He never run before under 45 seconds. Second Jamaican Javon Francis 45.54. In the 200 m South African Olympic finalist Anaso Jobodwana improved to national record 20.06 (0.0) and national record also for Anguila by Zharnel Hughes 20.15. Third Miguel Francis from Antigua also PB 20.31 and fourth another talent of the new generation Delano Williams 20.40. In the 100 m Jamaicans prevailed, Andrew Fisher 10.16 (+0.1) over Commonwealth Games gold medalist Kemar Bailey-Cole 10.22. In women sprints double for US Jeneba Tarmoh 11.16 (-0.1, beating Jamaican Natasha Morrison 11.22) and 22.75 (+0.4). The winner in 400 m hurdles Eric Cray clocked new national record for Philippines 49.12 over Ansert Whyte from Jamaica 49.20 third junior World champion Jaheel Hyde 50.30. In rest of the events US wins for Virginia Crawford 13.04 (+0.3) at 100 m hurdles and Shapri Romero 51.93 in the 400 m. Jamaican record holder Hansle Parchment topped the hurdles in 13.49 (+0.4) and Surinam talent and Youth Olympic Games winner Miguel Van Assen (17) triple jump 16.37 (0.0), new personal best. In the boys 400 m Jamaican talent Christopher Taylor (15) won in 46.08, his second best ever.
