YOUNG RUNNER2.jpgINDIANAPOLIS -- The best youth athletes in the country travel to Lisle, Illinois, this week for USATF Hershey National Youth Outdoor Championships. The week-long event, hosted June 30-July 5 at Laughlin Track on the campus of Benedictine University, will begin with World Youth Trials June 30 and July 1.

EUGENE, Oregon -- The USATF Championship Series rolls to a final stop in Eugene, as TrackTown USA plays host to the 2015 USATF Outdoor Championships, June 25-28, at Historic Hayward Field. Hundreds of athletes will live out their dreams to make Team USA and earn a spot to compete in the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China this August.

“I feel great about the victory because training is going really really good,” said Sharika Nelvis in her post-race interview. Sharika, the former NCAA champion, won the women’s 100m hurdles title in 12.65 seconds (-1.7 mps) at the 2015 Adidas Grand Prix Meet (New York Diamond League) held last Saturday, June 13 at Icahn Stadium on Randall Island. Sharika finished ahead of Britain’s Tiffany Porter (12.81), Jamaica’s Danielle Williams (12.89) and American Lolo Jones (12.95).

GRANT2.jpgWith a triple-gear burst of speed on the last lap, Grant Fisher of Michigan, who became the seventh prep to run sub-4:00 mile on June 4, repeated as adidas Grand Prix Dream Mile champion on June 13 in New York. Saying that the aura of the IAAF Diamond League meet made him feel like a professional, Fisher, a Stanford-bound senior, ran flawlessly in 4:01.73 on a warm and windy day at Icahn Stadium. Fisher extended his two-year undefeated streak in high school competition with one more scholastic race left: the two mile in this Saturday’s Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle. After that, Fisher will run the 1500 meters at the junior national championships, June 25-27, in Eugene, Oregon.

LIMA (PER, Jun 12): The 49th South American Championships started in Lima with Brazilian javelin record 81.22 by Julio Miranda de Oliveira during first day. Second Argentinian Braian Toledo 79.34. Another top mark in pole vault 570 by German Chiaraviglio of Argentina, just 1 cm under his national record back from 2006. Fast 400 m was won by Albert Bravo of Venezuela 45.26 (missed his national record from altitude only by 0.05). Second Hederson Alves from Brazil 45.57 and third another Venezuela runner Freddy Mezones 45.67. Good distances by women, Muriel Coneo of Colombia 4:10.14 in the 1500 m and Peru´s Ines Melchor 32:28.87 in the 10 000 m ahead of Maria Pastuna of Ecuador 32:51.33. Geisa Coutinho was the favorite women 400 m winner in 53.07.

With its “Black Tie and Sneakers Gala” on October 29, 2015 at the 168th Street Armory, USATF will bring together some of the most iconic athletes in our country’s history, celebrities from sports & entertainment, fans and current stars. Held at the home of the Hall of Fame within the iconic walls of the Armory on New York City’s Upper West side, the multimedia event will pay homage to athletes past and present. Award presenters will include national celebrities and Hall of Fame athletes in a black tie, red-carpet event.

pichardo2.pngPedro Pablo Pichardo stamped his authority on the triple jump competition from his very first jump and ended up improving both the meeting and stadium records with his winning effort of 17.96m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Rome on Thursday (4). The 21-year-old Cuban may not yet have surpassed Jonathan Edwards’ long-standing world record of 18.29m but he did beat one of the Briton’s slightly inferior marks, the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea meeting record of 17.60m which had stood since 1998.

Lavillenie went over an IAAF Diamond League pole vault record of 6.05m in Eugene on Saturday, rising to equal second on the world all-time outdoor list.
