Shanay Briscoe Named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week

06/10/2008 - 19:08

By John Nepolitan / June 9, 2008. At the Great Southwest Invitational the high jump bar was risen to 6’ and for the first time in high school history three girls would clear the bar. The next height would be 6’ 1-1/4” – the “A” qualifier for the U.S. Olympic Trials. All three would miss, but Shanay Briscoe (Duncanville, TX) would get the win on misses. Quickly a new competition would be started with the three jumpers opening at the 6’1-1/4” height. Even thought the temperatures were in the 90s and the girls had been out in the sun for a few hours, Briscoe was able to get over the bar and earn her “A” qualifier.

For her outstanding performance, Shanay Briscoe, has been named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week for the week of June 9th.

American Track & Field - Athletes Only magazine will recognize an outstanding performance each week by American high school and college athletes during the 2007 - 2008 school year
