NXN Teams of the Week: Dana Hills (CA) and York High School (IL)

Date:
11/07/2008 - 16:55

November 7, 2008 by Larry Eder -- Each week, I pour over the Regional Rankings so well prepared by Marc Bloom and Rich Gonzales and try to consider which team or athlete we should single out for special recognition? This week, November 6, I would like to consider Dana Hills boy's team of California and York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Dana Hills won the Boy's Team Sweepstakes at the Mt. SAC Cross Country less than two weeks ago, and they did it in style. In the most demanding, and arguably one of the toughest courses on the planet, Dana Hills won with their top five averaging 15:26 over the 2.94 mile rugged course-and this on the largest cross country meet in the country, with over 20,000 preps on a Friday and Saturday!

In the middle of the country, on November 8, there will be the Illinois State Cross Country Meet. Elmhurst High School, one of the most prestigious cross country teams in the country, will be going up against a competitors, where, quite frankly, there is no guarantees. What we like about Elmhurst is that, in their nearly 45-year history of tremendous cross country and track teams, they have surprised, surprised, surprised! We shall see what they can do on Saturday. Just north of Illinois, Wisconsin also has its state meet on November 8 and Madison West, which beat La Follete in the recent regionals looks quite tough.

This week, we will recognize the boy's team of Dana Hill, of Dana Hill, California for their hard fought victory at Mt. SAC. We will also recognize the boy's team at Elmhurst High School, for the battle that they are about to have tomorrow, November 8, at their state meet!

And we wish all of the other teams racing this weekend, good footing, great races and life long memories! Be one with the mud! Go Cross Country!
