SAC Cross Country invitational. With 570 teams and 20,000 runners (and that does not even count the 5,800 junior college runners from the weekend before or the upcoming junior high and middle school teams next weekend!), Mt. SAC is the largest cross country invitational in the U.S.

Very warm conditions canceled some of the last races on Saturday, and earlier races on Saturday were shortened by one mile. However, the Girl's Individual Sweepstakes was won by Jordan Hasay, from Mission Prep in San Luis Obispo, CA. Jordan ran 16:27 for the three mile tough course, the second fastest time in the course history (the record was set by Amber Trotter in 2001, with a time of

Jordan, as is her want, took the lead immediately and charged past the mile in 5:09, never to be stopped. Alex Dunne, a junior from San Clemente was second in 16:48, Molly Grabill of Rancho Bernardo, a sophomore, ran 16:54 as they followed Hasay around the challenging course.

Jordan Hasay loves cross country, and races sparingly. Her summer was a season of dreams---she set a new American junior record at 1,500 meters, in the Olympic trials and then took fourth in the World Youth Athletic Championships. Coached by Armando Siqueros, a national class road runner himself, Jordan Hasay is our Nike Cross Nationals Athlete of the Week.

On the team side, our hats our off to the Girls Saugus team, who won the Girls Sweepstakes at the Mt. SAC with 24 points and a near record team time! Think they are good? Their JV team won the JV Girls Sweepstakes with a score of 15! Saugus Girls, our hats are off to you for this week, October 27, 2008!
