NXN Athlete of Week Emily Sisson (MO); NXN Team of Week Naperville (IL)

Date:
11/14/2008 - 12:19

November 14, 2008 by Larry Eder. Emily Sisson, a two-time cross country champion in the state of Nebraska, just won a third state cross country title---except, it is in Missouri! Emily's family moved to the Show-Me state just before school started in 2008, and is running now for Parkway Central High School in Chesterfield. Emily took the lead in 5:33 at the mile and she had only the golf cart challenging her for the lead around the course, which she ran in 17:57, the second fastest time ever run on the state course, and she became the first junior to do that. Stories about Emily continue to be told. She once got lost on a course in Nebraska and not only found her way back-she had been in the lead-and still won the race! A two-time Foot Locker finalist, fifth in 2006 and 23rd in 2007, Emily is also the 2007 US junior champion at 5,000 meters. A great story about her from a local paper is linked here (http://tinyurl.com/6gqhku). Emily Sisson is our NXN American Track & Field athlete of the week!

On the team side, we cross the Mississippi River to the Illinois State Boys State meet where York High School (Elmhurst, IL) was defeated by one point, by Naperville North, lead by Kyle Gibson in fourth and David McWilliams in ninth. York High School had won 26 of the previous Illinois State XC Titles. For Naperville's victory, they are our NXN Team of the week!
