Kyle Alcorn Named - Athletes Only Athlete of the Week

03/18/2008 - 15:16

By John Nepolitan / March 18, 2008

When Kyle Alcorn (Arizona State University) walked onto the track for the 3000 meters at the NCAA Championships this past weekend he was only seeded 14 out of 16, but kicked hard over the final 400 gave Alcorn his first NCAA title. The night before his 3000 victory Alcorn, who spent his first two collegiate years at the University of Oregon, brought his ASU team home to a 2nd place, but it was the 3000 victory that was extra special. With the points Alcorn scored in the individual event it sent the Sun Devils into the final event tied with Florida State for the team title. ASU went on to seal the victory by placing third in the final event of the weekend, the 4 x 400 relay, but it was Alcorn's unexpected finish that put his team in the position to win.

For his doing what is needed for the team attitude, Kyle Alcorn, has been named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week for the week of March 17th.

American Track & Field - Athletes Only magazine will recognize an outstanding performance each week by American high school and college athletes during the 2007 - 2008 school year
