Heather Dorniden Named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week

03/12/2008 - 15:13

By John Nepolitan / March 12, 2008

Coming up to one lap to go in the Big 10 600 meters race Heather Dorniden (University of Minnesota) had just moved into the lead when she was clipped from behind and went down. Very quickly Dorniden jumped to her feet and started after the field. Even though she had only been on the floor just a split second, the field had passed her by and the chance of catching up with the field with just 200 meters to go seemed slim. However, Dorniden started after the other runners and not only started to close the gap, but coming off the last turn was making a bid for the win. A dip at the line gave the junior first place in her section and her time would hold up for 2nd place overall. With her points, Dorniden was able to help Minnesota to the team title.

For her never give up attitude, Heather Dornden, has been named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week for the week of March 10th.

American Track & Field - Athletes Only magazine will recognize an outstanding performance each week by American high school and college athletes during the 2007 - 2008 school year
