At last years NSIC meet in New York at his first ever indoor competition, McCullough not only won the national tile but broke the national record of Walter Henning. A year later McCullough broke the national record not once but twice at two different meets on the same weekend. First up on Friday was the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston and a new national mark of 92’7.5”. Two days later in New York once again for the NSIC meet McCullough would up the mark. After warming up with 2 85’ throws McCullough stepped into the ring for his 5th attempt of the competition and launched the weight 93’ 3.25” for a new national record. As the throw flew through the air fans in the upstairs seating which hangs over the thrown area ran fearing the 25 lbs implement would land in their lap. It missed the upper deck but did one hop into the rear fence of the throwing area.

For his record performances, Conor McCullough, has been named Athletes Only Athlete of the Week for the week of March 15th.

American Track & Field - Athletes Only magazine will recognize an outstanding performance each week by American high school and college athletes during the 2008 - 2009 school year
